FAQ
What services does First Tokyo Trip provide?
We provide off-the-shelf and bespoke self-walking guided tours, bespoke itinerary design services, and guided tours with English-speaking tour guides. All are tours are in Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. Although we are focused on working with first-time visitors to Tokyo to ensure they make the most of their first trip, we can help those well-seasoned travellers wanting to explore new horizons and experience something different. All our tours are private.
What is the typical duration of your tours?
Our tours are usual for a duration of a half-day (4-5 hours) or a full-day (7-8 hours). A combination of a day and night tour of up to 12 hours can also be designed to meet your desired itinerary. We also offer standalone night tours of the best places in Tokyo to enjoy based on your taste of music, venue atmosphere, budget, and time available.
What is a Self-Walking Guided Tour?
A self-walking guided tour is a digital product you can download onto your mobile phone that takes all the guess work out of visiting a specific area and otherwise touring "on the fly" using search engine maps and/or information from the internet. These guided tours include a detailed tour route of the place you want to visit, how to get there from your hotel, travel costs involved, and estimated time it will take to walk the tour. They can be used in lieu of hiring a tour guide and without constantly trying to find your bearings going through the twists and turns while walking the route. Getting lost can be part of the exploring process, but usually results in wasted time, energy, and missing out on the best Tokyo has to offer. Self-Walking Guided Tours help prevent this.
Do you offer off-the-shelf day tours of popular places to visit?
Yes, we do and have a list of recommended venues. However, we find the best result is in working closely with you and making any changes that will be more suited to your expectations and objectives. Our Bespoke Itinerary Design Service starts with our recommendations, but provides three rounds of discussions to make sure the chosen itinerary is right for you.
How do tours with an accompanied English-speaking tour guide work?
You have two choices. First you can make a reservation for one of our off-the-shelf tours of popular destinations. These are set half-day or full-day tours and, like all of our tours, are structured to minimized travel time and costs from your hotel. Or, you can use our Bespoke Itinerary Design Service that gives you the freedom to design an itinerary that includes your chosen venues. We then tweak the itinerary to create a tour route from your hotel that again minimizes travel time and costs. In both cases, the tour guide will meet you at your hotel to start your journey. Quoted tour prices include all travel costs, food and drink costs, and tour guide costs.
Do you provide hotel reservation services?
We have a flat fee service to advise you on the most convenient places to stay depending on your proposed destinations within Tokyo or to surrounding prefecture sites during your stay. We can make a hotel reservation on your behalf under agreed upon conditions.
How many people do you accommodate on your tours?
All our tours are private. We provide tours for individual travellers up to as many as five people in a group. Tours for family and/or friends over five people are considered on a case by case basis.
